Dear NACS Families                                                 May 18, 2010

I hope this letter finds you all well. The end of the school year is coming to an end so I decided to write to let you all know what is going on for the remainder of the school year. Our last meeting for this school year will be June 4 at 1pm at the Henagar Park. This meeting was scheduled for June 11 but I’m re-scheduling since we have a Field Trip Scheduled for June 12.

Graduation is May 29 at 1pm at the Tom Bevill Enrichment Center 115 Main St W Rainsville, AL 35986. Congratulations to our Kindergarten and Senior Graduates.

We are planning a Field Trip to Ethridge, TN to the Amish Village on Saturday, June 12. We plan to go on a Horse and Buggy tour through the community. Our group has been twice already and we always learn something new. The cost of the Tour is $8 for ages 13 and older, $4 for ages 5-12 and under 5 is free. We will be meeting in the Scottsboro, K-Mart Parking Lot at 8am CST and will leave around 8:15am. Our tour will begin at 11am. Once we are finished with the tour, we will go to Davy Crockett Park for a cookout. If you plan to go on this trip you need to let me know, no later than June 5th. When you contact me, I will find out what you can bring for the cookout. I will place a list at the bottom of this letter. You can contact me by phone, mail or e-mail. I will need to know how many will be in your group. This trip is open to everyone, not just homeschoolers.

Grades, attendance, re-enrollment forms and enrollment fee of $125 will be due on or before Friday, August 6. We will have open enrollment August 6th at 1pm at the Henagar Park. If you cannot come to this meeting, you will need to mail your paperwork and fee so I will receive it by August 6th. You can still make 3 monthly payments of $41.66 each as long as the final payment is paid by August 6th.

School T-shirts are $10.90 each sizes 4T thru XL. XXL up to 4XL will need to add $2. If you will need your shirts shipped to you, please add $5 for up to 2 shirts. If you wish to order send the number of shirts you need along with the sizes and your payment.

Field Trip to the Jewish Mission board will be sometime in August. I will let you know the arrangements later. The guide is a native born Israeli Jew, now a Christian. She walks you through the small museum and explains the customs and history of the Jewish people and it is fascinating! It is like a walk across the Holy Land! If you were to walk through on your own just scanning the pictures you might take all of 15 minutes but the guided tour takes about 2 hours to complete! There is just so much information to be shared. There is a small replica of the tabernacle, diarama of Moses, Abraham, a life sized model of a High Priest, tons of pictures of Israel, explanations of the Jewish feasts, explanation of the Jewish wedding ceremony, and artifacts. There is a small section on the Holocaust. I would suggest at least 4th grade and up since the kids do need to be quiet and pay attention and they will be on their feet quite a long while. The tour is free. They do have a small gift shop. The museum is right near the mall in Hixson. (Chattanooga)

Trip to Disney World: Week of November 20-27. They have a program called the Disney Y.E.S.(Youth Education Series) Program. We have wanted to go for the past 2 years, but haven't made it yet. My family and I plan to go this year. I don't know an exact price yet since Nov and Dec are considered the 2011 season. Below is the price for the 2010 season. The cost does not include Hotel, Food or Travel(vehicle & Gas). The hotel rates are really down in Nov & Dec. They say the weather is very nice that time of year, not sweltering hot but still nice enough to swim. It is also not overly crowded. I will give more details as I get them. We will be required to attend 1 Youth Education Series while we are there. The rest of the time is yours to spend as you wish. This would make a great Christmas gift for families who have never been. I will have to register us 6 weeks before we go, meaning your money will be due at least 6 weeks prior to going. If you have a fundraiser you would like to do to help fund your family's trip you may do so using the school's name. Any funds you raise are yours to keep. I do expect you to help our school keep it's good name, meaning if you sell a product, make sure you deliver the product to your customers.

It is time to enroll your children in the "Pizza Hut Book It" Program. This is a program sponsored by Pizza Hut to encourage reading by giving away 6 individual size pizzas per child for FREE. You can go on-line and follow the links for enrollment. They even have the homeschoolers as a choice. The deadline is June 30th. To enroll go to: http://www.bookitprogram.com/ Enrollment/ index.asp (Remember to fill the form out in all CAPS) This is a great little bonus for your K-6th grade readers.

If you are interested in a yearbook please let me know. We haven’t been able to do one in the past, but I would really like for our children to have these memories. We have a total of 120 students so we have enough to put one together. If we decide to do one I will have to find someone to bind them and get a price( should be around $25- $30). All you will have to do is submit photos of your child for this school year and pay for your Yearbook.

I found this website for free K-12 home-schooling. I have not had a chance to check them out in depth , but I like what I’ve learned so far. You go to their site and register your child. Pick the subjects you would like for them to do. They ship everything to you and you only pay shipping costs. They ship CD’s, DVD’s and other program material. You do have to return the CD’s & DVD’s when you’re finished. You also have to keep a credit card or debit card number on file just in case you don’t return their material in which case you will be charged for them. Here’s the site and they only accept 1700 students per year so if you want to take advantage of this offer, you will need to register soon. http://www.k-12freehomeschool.org/free_home_school_about.php

Fundraiser: I have set-up an online fundraiser for our school through Rada Cutlery. Anyone who has ever used their knives is sure to agree they are the best on the market. They also have all kind of kitchen gadgets other than knives. This fundraiser will run 365 days per year every year, so order anytime. The prices are cheaper through this fundraiser than if you go directly to the Rada site to purchase. They are also much cheaper than purchasing from the Flea Market. To place an order go to www.helpourfundraiser.com the internet order number is 502464 and the Password is fund. You will then click on Browse. Your order will be shipped directly to you. If you do not have internet access, I have catalogs that I can send to you to order from. If you wish to place an order by catalog , you will need to send your order to me along with your payment(check, money order or credit card) and I will place your order for you. If you submit payment with credit or debit card, I will need the name on the card, the correct billing address, the card number, expiration date and the three digit code on the back. I will also need your correct shipping address. Once your order is placed, your personal information will be shredded unless you ask me to keep it on file for future orders. Shipping charges are as follows:

Up to $74.99 add $5 shipping $75.00 to $249.99 add $10 shipping $250.00 to $499.99 add $15 shipping.

All profit will go into a general fund for the school for things such as party supplies, building rentals etc. I would appreciate if you would share this information with friends and relatives. If you need a catalog or know someone who would like one please let me know and I will mail one. The school makes 40% profit off this fundraiser.

Basic Facts about Homeschooling. Some people think that once they are enrolled with this school, that's all there is to it and they don't have to do anything else. Homeschooling DOES NOT work that way. Here are a few guidelines to follow.

1. Fill-out an Enrollment Form each year on or before the first Friday in August. This goes to the Truancy Officer in the Public School District in which you live. It also goes to the Truancy Officer in Dekalb County since that's the County where my office is located. This let's the Truancy Officer know that your child is in fact enrolled in school.

2. Pay your yearly enrollment fee of $125 per family on or before the first Friday in August. Private schools such as homeschooling receive no Government Funding, therefore someone has to be paid to do what I do in order to keep it Legal for you to Homeschool in Alabama.

3. TEACH YOUR CHILD! It's your responsibility to make sure your child has the proper curriculum in order for you to teach and them to learn. I have had to monitor some of our homeschooled families this year. We had some students who were reported as "Enrolled but not homeschooling". When I get a call such as this I have to monitor those students, meaning the Truancy Officer in Dekalb County says I have to see proof that those student's are being homeschooled. Sometimes I'm asked to look over a students work every 6-8 weeks. If I find that student isn't being taught I have to report that back to the Truancy Officer and they will come to your house and give you 3 days to have that student enrolled in Public School.

4. Turn in grades and attendance by first Friday in August.

5. DON'T LIE TO ME! Until I receive your payment and enrollment form, your child IS NOT enrolled.

6. If you don't follow the first 2 steps, then that means your child IS NOT Enrolled with this school. Everyone who is enrolled and does not re-enroll by the first Friday in August each year is considered a NON-ENROLLEE and a letter is sent to the Board of Education stating that your child is no longer enrolled with this school. The Board of Education will wait about a week and if they have no proof your child is enrolled they will come to your house and find out why. This is your responsibility as a parent. All children between the ages of 7 and 17 must be enrolled in school. I will not lie stating that a child is enrolled under this cover when they aren't. I DO NOT back date forms to keep you out of trouble.

I DO NOT give free enrollment. This job is part of my income. I DO NOT do this for my health. I get tired of hearing "Why do I have to pay?" If you can't afford the enrollment fee and curriculum then I suggest you send your child to public school. My time is very valuable to me and I'm finished with people who think I should bend over backwards for them and they can't even attend a single meeting during a school year. Homeschooling is a wonderful thing when people do what they are supposed to do.

I have been contacted by Public School Officials more this year than all three of my previous years as Administrator combined. Please follow the rules or don't waste my time.

I have received calls from some non-enrollee's asking for Proof of Enrollment. For those who are enrolled, please use this as a reminder. Also for those of you who do what you are supposed to, THANK YOU. You are the ones who make my life easier.

I am enclosing a Grade Sheet for the 2009-2010 school year and an Enrollment Form for the 2010-2011 school year. I look forward to serving as your School Administrator for the 2010-2011 school year.

Here’s the list of food we will need for the Cookout when we go on the Amish Field Trip. Please let me know what you can bring. Hot Dogs, Hot Dog Buns, Hamburger Buns, Ketchup, Mustard, Mayonnaise, tomatoes, onions, sliced cheese, sliced dill pickles, lettuce, and Plain Dip Style Chips. If you would rather make a donation of $5, I will purchase the food. I will bring hamburger patties and dip. Everyone will need to bring a 12 pack of drinks(iced down) for your family.

God Bless You All,
